  • Manchester Grand Hyatt participated in Hyatt Coordinated Advertising program for the GLBT Market, spending $50,000 in 2008 and $25,000 in 2007.
  • Manchester Grand Hyatt sponsored ASAE (American Society of Association Executives) Diversity Reception in August 2008, spending $35,000 in support of the event.
  • Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego was a major contributor to the ASAE (American Society of Association Executives) Hyatt donation to promote diversity in association management with a $500,000 contribution from Hyatt Hotels in August 2008.

  • Manchester Grand Hyatt underwrote the MCCSN Diversity Conference in October 2008, sponsoring the event with $49,000 in support.

Yes, Hyatt supports the GLBT community in many ways. Hyatt is an ardent supporter of workplace non-discrimination and diversity. Hyatt has been consistently recognized for its positive accomplishments in these areas including: The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), The Advocate, PlanetOut and other majoy GLBT organizations and major media outlets for their commitment to diversity and as one of the most respected companies serving and employing members of the GLBT community. Specific commendations have included the following:

  • The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) honored Hyatt’s continued commitment to the GLBT community by placing Hyatt on the “2009 Best Places to Work”, marking the company’s sixth consecutive year with the distinction of being one of the community’s most admired employers and attaining a perfect 100% score on the annual survey.
  • The Advocate recently named Hyatt one of the “Top-Ten Gay Friendly Employers in America”.
  • PlanetOut named Hyatt “the best gay hotel collection” presenting Hyatt with the “PlanetOut Travel Award”, the most prestigious honor for a hotelier’s commitment to serving the GLBT community.

Manchester Grand Hyatt gives millions of dollars back to the community in which it serves through volunteer work via the F.O.R.C.E. program (Families of Responsible Caring Employees). This amount is based on calculating the wages and compensation paid to associates that provide their time and efforts and resources to make San Diego a great place to work and live.

San Diego tourism and decreased convention activity has led to significant economic deficits on all local business and hotels are no exception. Fortunately for the dedicated men and women working at the property, there have been no lay-offs as a result of the boycotts.

There is no labor dispute at this hotel as Manchester Grand Hyatt is a non-union hotel. We enjoy a collaborative and open relationship with our employee base of over 1200 people that work at Manchester Grand Hyatt representing 56 countries.

Housekeepers at Manchester Grand Hyatt on a volunteer basis participate in a program that assigns credits to the room based on the level of cleaning required. This program allows housekeepers to work an eight hour day and also provides financial incentives for the housekeeper. Manchester Grand Hyatt has only a 4 percent turnover rate in the housekeeping department which is very low based on national comparisons.

  • Mr. Manchester gave $125,000 contribution to “Yes on 8” campaign.
  • After passage, the gay community focused its anger at Mr. Manchester, and others, by initiating a well organized boycott and negative press generating campaign.
  • Local union, Unite Here, sensing a vulnerability, latched onto this opportunity to press for unionization of the property, bringing up old and baseless charges about Room Attendants.
  • Unite Here initiated an aggressive proactive campaign to divert existing convention business.
  • Activists have ignored Hyatt’s strong and lengthy history of diversity, equality and support for the gay and lesbian community in order to go after Mr. Manchester and Manchester Grand Hyatt.
